Proxy Tracking, Good or Bad?

Well, I was reading someplace that the number of frauds and illegal activities the occur through a proxy have skyrocketed, and that it’s the proxy owners taking this sh*t for it, because they can’t prove who it was, and I was thinking, what if the activities of browsers could be stored, but without making it readable by a human being, so they are still anonymous?

What I mean is, for example, the proxy md5() encoding the url, and storing it , with the IP address and the time, in a database, so that, if there is a fraudulent occurence, the url that was visited for the fraud can be shoved through a md5() generator, and then queried on the database, which means you can find what you want, without ever being able to “just browse” and see where people have been.

Now I think this is a good idea, and that it would keep a lot of people safer (proxy owners) and maybe even cut down the frauds, and I guess that if it’s in the privacy policy, it’s ok, right?

I would appreciate any comments on this matter :)

I think it is pretty common practice for proxies to be used for what could be considered “fraudulent” activity. On the proxies that I own I have always wished that I could have tracking capabilities, especially if the law was to come down on me for some activity that occurred from one of my sites.
I think your idea is excellent. It would provide protection to the proxy owners as well as assure the user that their surfing activity remains anonymous.
If you find such a script please let me know!!
